New-home sales decline in Texas’ biggest cities in September

New-home sales slowed in Texas’ four largest markets last month, according to the latest report from HomesUSA. The three-month average of home sales in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio slid to 5,722 in September from 5,803 in August.   

By city, the September three-month moving average of new-home sales in Dallas-Ft. Worth slid to 1,848 from 1,862 in August, while in Houston, it dipped to 1,943 from 1,970. In Austin, it fell to 864 from 871, and in San Antonio, it declined to 1,067 from 1,100.  

New-home prices, meanwhile, were mixed among the state’s largest cities.  

In Dallas-Ft. Worth, the three-month moving average price for new homes in September rose to $492,129 from $489,762 in August, and in Houston, it declined to $397,318 from $402,741. In Austin, meanwhile, the average price in September was $483,408, compared to $494,920 in August, and in San Antonio, it was $338,620, compared to $340,775.  

“Texas new-home sales signals are mixed due to seasonal impact and the continued uncertainty of mortgage rates, but the silver lining is that sales compared to the same time last year are up 12%,” HomesUSA CEO Ben Caballero said in a press release.
