Renters can get above-average square footage for $1,500 in the Metroplex

by Emily Marek

The typical $1,500 apartment in Garland is about 921 square feet — over 200 square feet bigger than the national average, according to RentCafe.

Across the U.S., renters who spend $1,500 per month can get up to 715 square feet of living space. However, that average is skewed by drastically smaller apartments in places like Manhattan (where $1,500 only equates to 216 square feet) and Boston (311 square feet).

In reality, though, renters in 63% of the largest U.S. cities — including many in the Metroplex — can find apartments much larger than 715 square feet.

In Garland, the average apartment is 879 square feet and costs $1,356. That means renters who spend $1,500 per month can afford apartments bigger than the norm. The Dallas suburb ranked No. 29 for apartment size among big cities at the price point.

Other nearby large cities where $1,500 apartments are above average-sized are Fort Worth (920 square feet) and Arlington (923 square feet)

Among smaller cities, renters can also find above-average apartment sizes in nearby Mesquite, where $1,500 apartments are typically 980 square feet, making it the No. 25 small city on RentCafe’s list and the No. 10 city in Texas.
