The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area ranks as one of the best places in the country for first-time homebuyers, according to a report from Creditnews.

The finance site analyzed the 50 largest metro areas in the United States based on mortgage affordability, market access, bargaining power, employment growth and livability and found that the Dallas area ranks No. 8 in the country for first-time buyers.

That ranking is mostly due to the area’s vibrant cultural scene and booming employment — Dallas ranked No. 4 in the country for employment growth and No. 9 for overall livability. So while the metro ranked lower in areas such as mortgage affordability and bargaining power — Nos. 22 and 35, respectively — it still earned a spot in the top 10.

Dallas was beat out by Pittsburgh at No. 1, Austin-Round Rock at No. 2, San Antonio-New Braunfels at No. 3, Birmingham-Hoover at No. 4, Jacksonville at No. 5, New Orleans-Metairie at No. 6 and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach at No. 7. Conversely, the worst metro area in the country for first-timers was San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, followed by San Diego-Carlsbad, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Denver-Aurora-Lakewood and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario.
