Real estate derives its value from water: Why Texas Realtors support Proposition 4

by Brandon Alderete

Water is not just a resource. It is the foundation of life, community growth, and the basis of value for every piece of property in Texas. From families seeking safe drinking water to businesses planning for expansion, and from farmers sustaining crops to developers building new homes, water touches every corner of our state’s economy. Simply put: Real estate derives its value from water.

That is why Texas REALTORS® strongly supports State of Texas Proposition 4, the constitutional amendment that dedicates state funding to invest in our water infrastructure. This measure ensures that Texas will have the resources needed to repair aging systems, expand capacity and secure reliable water supplies for decades to come.

For homeowners, stable and modern water systems protect property values and provide peace of mind. For prospective buyers, access to water is a deciding factor in where they choose to live and invest. For communities, infrastructure investment is the key to growth, housing affordability and long-term resilience. Without a reliable water supply, our homes lose value, our communities stall and our state’s economic future is jeopardized.

Proposition 4 is more than a policy choice — it’s a generational investment. By voting for Proposition 4 this November, Texans can safeguard their communities, protect their property values and ensure that our state remains a place where people want to live, work and invest.

As Realtors, we know that a healthy housing market depends on strong infrastructure. We encourage every Texan to learn more, make a plan to vote, and join us in supporting Proposition 4. Visit www.texasrealtorssupport.com for more information on Proposition 4 and all the proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot.

Early voting began Oct. 20, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4. Remember: Your vote is your voice — and your voice can secure Texas’ water future.
