Nancy Wilson Real Estate Advisor

Coldwell Banker Realty

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I had several jobs to help pay for college before getting into real estate. One of these was selling vacuum cleaners door to door and this definitely helped me with rejection. Then after college, I appraised houses for the Dallas Central Appraisal District, which gave me a peek into how the county and city work.

Where did you grow up?
I was nomadic. My dad was a football coach, so we moved around every two years. But I spent the longest time in Texas.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
When I was a child in fourth grade, I wanted to be a nun. Needless to say, I did not follow that path.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I go for a walk to the lake near our house.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Anyone who survived the Holocaust. This was such a horrific time in history that to have survived something like that took such faith and strength.

What is Dallas-Fort Worth’s best-kept secret?
Lakewood (where I live)

What do you love most about the industry?
I absolutely love helping people either move into their first home or assisting those who are moving from their home where they raised their children. It’s such a personal experience. Being able to be a part of this time in someone’s life is truly a blessing.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I believe being a real estate advisor is the best job ever and try to set myself apart from others by my knowledge, experience and true passion for the industry. Not only do I believe I am one of the best in Dallas, but I love learning from those in our industry. Whether it is crawling under a house with an inspector or helping a plumber with a hydrostatic test, I am always learning.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
The hardest part is when I can’t meet every expectation. We all have our unique skill set, and I try to surround myself with others who are smarter than me.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Use your sphere and always treat your clients like family. I have never used a lead generator other than my previous clients and sphere.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
I just finished reading “Unbroken,” which is about WWII. I tend to read historical nonfiction books. I am also listening and reading as much as I can on cancer right now. My husband was diagnosed with a rare Stage 4 cancer in June and I am doing as much research as possible.

What’s your favorite meal in Dallas-Fort Worth?
Anything from Terilli’s on Greenville Ave. My husband and I had our first date there 33 years ago and we still go there regularly.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Dallas-Fort Worth?
The Purse Building downtown because a friend of mine, Tanya Ragan, bought and restored this building and it is truly so beautiful.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Probably walking into a house with a client for a showing and seeing the homeowner in the shower.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Vacationing is my favorite thing to do with my family and one of our most memorable trips was to Italy and Tuscany. The wine is delicious, the food is divine and the scenery is magical there.

What is your favorite city after Dallas-Fort Worth?
Probably New Orleans because my husband and I love the food, music and vibe.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Learn as much as you can. Treat others with kindness.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
I don’t use apps for real estate. I have our MLS on my phone and Copilot. I love Copilot.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
I follow local inspectors in Dallas because I learn so much from them.
